Catchers for Sliding Hanging Gates: Installation and Adjustment
Have you ever seen hanging gates rattling in the wind or "swaying" in different directions when closing? This isn't just an annoying sound — it's a direct path to rapid wear of the rollers and the track itself. To ensure your gates close precisely, like a premium car door, you need a reliable catcher.
In simple terms: A catcher is a "pocket" that the gate leaf slides into at the very end. It holds the bottom of the leaf to prevent it from shaking in the wind.
Which Catcher to Choose? 3 Main Types
We at KSV Systems have developed several options so you can choose the perfect catcher for your budget and needs:

A classic model without adjustment. The most reliable and budget-friendly option for standard tasks.
Allows you to adjust the width to fit the thickness of your gate frame, but without guide rollers.
A model with width adjustment and rollers for the smoothest and quietest closing experience.
A special mounting bracket that allows you to install any catcher without welding.
⚒ Tools Needed for Installation:
- Tape measure and marker
- Spirit level
- Drill or hammer drill
- Wrench set
- Wall plugs or self-tapping screws
The Main Secret of Easy Installation: Special Mounting Bracket
Previously, to install a catcher, you had to struggle: weld metal corners to the posts and fuss with the level.
We have created a special mounting bracket (shown in photo as #4). It allows you to:
- Forget about welding: Attaches directly to the post using fasteners.
- Fine adjustment: You can move the catcher left or right so it aligns perfectly with the gate center.
Technical Clearances: How to Avoid Mistakes?
This is the most critical part for a "set it and forget it" installation. To prevent the gates from jamming, follow this rule:
There should be 2-3 mm of space on each side between the catcher wall and the gate frame. If it's too tight, the gates will be difficult to close even with the slightest wind or misalignment.
How to Install the Catcher Yourself
- Marking: Close the gate fully and use a marker on the post to draw a line where the bottom of the frame passes.
- Bracket Mounting: Place the bracket at the mark and secure it. Do not tighten the bolts fully yet.
- Catcher Installation: Screw the catcher onto the bracket.
- Testing: Close the gate several times. The leaf should enter the "pocket" freely. If it hits the sides, move the catcher sideways on the bracket.
Tip: Use models with rollers (#3) if you want the gates to close as quietly as possible without damaging the paint on the frame.
